Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is made up of about ten people with the mandate to advise the Pastor on parish affairs other than strictly financial matters. PPC is not elected; instead, most members have been chosen by the Pastor or by various active parish groups to represent them. There are reps for Liturgy, Religious Ed, Development & Peace, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Women's League, to name a few. This ensures that wide-ranging interests are present, but the "reps" all work together for the pastoral welfare of the entire Parish. Most PPC members serve for several years, but there is some turn-over. Usually, if you're on PPC, you're also working hard for the Parish in one or more areas of interest.
We meet monthly (except during the summer), usually at the Rectory. Meetings are informal, and as the Pastor gets the input he needs from the discussion, there is rarely if ever a formal vote. There's always an opportunity for reps from the various groups to share notes and coordinate activities. We also send a representative to quarterly meetings of the Central Deanery Pastoral Council, and share with our Anglican opposite numbers in a Joint Vestry/PPC meeting from time to time.
Minutes of PPC meetings are posted in the Narthex of the church; or just ask Kitty for them at the Parish Office. Photos of current Parish Council members are permanently posted in the narthex; if you recognize someone from his/her photo, don't hesitate to offer them your ideas, even if you don't know them (yet); listening to parishioners and conveying their concerns to PPC is part of our job - and we take it seriously.
PPC Notes is intended to keep parishioners informed about the activities of Parish Pastoral Council, and is published as an insert in the Blessed John XXIII bulletin approximately quarterly, or as issues arise.
